Denmark Visa Application Procedures

Denmark, formally known as the Kingdom of Denmark, is a Nordic kingdom comprised of the following territories:

Denmark's metropolitan area is located in Europe.

Faroe Islands is a self-contained archipelago-country in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Greenland is a self-governing component island republic in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Metropolitan Denmark joined the European Union in January 1973, and the Schengen Agreement was signed in 2001. Since then, international citizens have been able to apply for a Schengen visa to Denmark through the relevant Danish representative authorities in their home country.

Denmark, with an area of 42,933 km2 in Europe, provides must-see sites to travelers such as the Frederiksborg Palace, Vikingeskibsmuseet, Skagen Beaches, Legoland Billund, and Tivoli Gardens.

Denmark's name simply translates as "the Land of the Danes."

Denmark Requirements for Entry

Because to the Schengen Zone's single travel area, the member states of which have abolished borders for their inhabitants, EU nationals just require an identity document to enter Denmark.

Non-EU visitors who desire to visit Denmark must submit the following documents when they arrive at the Danish port of entry:

A current passport or other travel paperwork. Valid for at least three months after their intended date of departure from Schengen, and granted within the past ten years.

If they are subject to the Danish visa rules, they will need a visa.

Aside of these documents, the Danish border officer may ask you a few questions about your trip to Denmark like:

What is the reason for your trip to Denmark?

How long do you plan on staying in Denmark?

Where will you be staying in Denmark? Etc.

Keep in mind that the border police have the last say on whether or not you are allowed to enter Denmark. If the Danish border officer determines that you pose no risk to Denmark after reviewing your documentation, you will be allowed to enter Denmark and thereby the Schengen area.

When you enter Denmark, please ensure that the Danish border officer stamps your passport. You might be penalized or arrested if you do not have a stamp.

Who Must Have a Schengen Visa to Enter Denmark?

If you fall into one of the following categories, you will require a short-stay visa to enter Denmark and any other Schengen member country:

You are a national of a third-world country that has not signed an agreement with the Schengen nations on visa liberalization.

You are a third-world national who has signed a visa liberalization agreement with the Schengen nations, but you have previously been denied entry into Denmark or any other Schengen country.

What kind of visa is required to enter Denmark?

Your Denmark visa application process is determined by the reason for your travel to the country. That is why, before you begin the application procedure, you should determine what sort of Danish visa for short-term visits you require.

You can apply for one of the following Schengen visa categories for Denmark, depending on your purpose of admission and stay:

Transit Visa for Denmark. Allows you to arrive in one of Denmark's airports before taking a trip to a non-Schengen country.

Transit visa for Denmark. Mostly for sailors who need to embark in a Danish port before continuing on to their non-Schengen home country or destination country.

Denmark Tourist/Visit Visa is required. Allows you to visit Denmark for vacation, exploration, sightseeing, or to see friends and relatives.

Denmark Commercial Allows you to enter Denmark to attend a business meeting or engage in other business-related activities.

Visa required for an official visit to Denmark. If you are a member of a foreign official delegation invited to Denmark for an official visit, you must apply for this visa.

Medical Visa for Denmark. The visa required for entry into Denmark for medical reasons.

Studying in Denmark requires a visa. This visa type allows you to study for up to three months at a Danish educational institution.

Denmark Visa for Cultural, Sports, and Film Crews. Apply for this to enter the Schengen zone in order to participate in a sport or cultural activity in Denmark.

Please keep in mind that these visas allow you to stay in Denmark for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. If you require a visa to stay in Denmark for an extended period of time, apply for a Danish National Visa instead.

What Documents Are Required for a Denmark Schengen Visa Application?

The following are the mandatory Denmark visa requirements:

Form for obtaining a Danish visa. Fill out the form on your computer, print it, and sign it at the bottom.

There are two passport photographs. The images must be similar and meet the photo standards for the Danish Schengen visa application.

Your current passport. As previously stated, ensure that your passport contains:

Two blank pages are required to attach the visa.

Is under the age of ten,Has a validity period of at least three months after the day you want to depart Denmark and the Schengen area.

Copies of any prior visas (if any). 

Travel health insurance for Denmark. Evidence proving you have travel health insurance that covers the whole Schengen area, including Denmark, and any form of medical emergency for at least 30,000€.

Round-trip Flight Itinerary. A document that shows you have a booked flight, to enter and leave Denmark. This document should specify flight numbers, dates, and your details.

Proof of accommodation. Evidence that shows where you will be staying throughout your time in Denmark I.e. a hotel reservation.

Proof of civil status. This could be a marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, etc.

Proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay in Denmark. You must be able to attest that you have around 67.24€ per each day you plan to spend in Denmark, if staying in a hotel, while if staying in a hostel or similar cheaper means of accmodation, then the required amount of financial means is around 47.07€.

A cover letter. A personal letter in which you explain why you are applying to visit Denmark, how long you plan to stay, when will you leave and other details.
